Class Purpose |
“Who am I?”, “How do I know what I want?”, “Why can’t I make up my mind?”, “How do I learn more about myself?” There are countless questions that we, as human beings, ask ourselves about ourselves. Likewise, there are a myriad of ways that we seek to understand those around us. In Human Studies III: “I and You” we will explore different ways of understanding ourselves in relation to others through the lens of psychology. We will cover important theorists such as Freud, Jung, Buber, Klein, Winnicott as well as review more modern investigations into “self-hood” such as Relational Frame Theory (RFT). This lecture series is interactive, and students will be answering questions, participating in discussions, and completing in-class assignments in addition to their weekly homework. It is my hope that students end the semester with a better understanding of the various ways to understand who they are as well as an appreciation for how they uniquely relate to others. Additionally, this course is designed to be an immersive cultural experience, as it centers around Western psychology and philosophy and taught 100% in college-level English. This is an analogous experience to taking classes in a U.S. college or university. |
