The Center provides support for psychological issues such as child rearing, human relationships and stress, using methods such as psychological consultations (counseling), psychological examinations and cooperation with specialized institutions. It also functions as a location for practical education and postgraduate students aiming to become licensed psychologists also take responsibility for psychological consultations. It carries out activities so that it can make a contribution to the psychological health of local residents in a concrete way, based on the results and knowledge accumulated through psychology research so far.The Kobe Gakuin University Cooperative Research Center of Life Sciences (LSC) was established when the University was chosen by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to participate in its Academic Frontier Promotion Program. It is currently exploring five research themes, with a focus on the Strategic Research Foundation Grant-aided Project for Private Universities (2012 to 2016), which followed the Academic Frontier Promotion Program. Over the approximately 13 years since its founding, the Center has worked to build structures facilitating collaboration with a broad range of experts both inside and outside the University, and it has played a role in achieving the City of Kobe’s goal of becoming a center of the medical industry. The Center works for the commercialization of research findings with the aim of conducting creative research activities.The Center’s research theme is “The coexistence of the University and the community.” In collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, teachers and students of the University proactively leave the campus to identify various problems in the community and search for solutions through practical research. The center was subsidized by the Academic Frontier Promotion Project of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for eight years from 2002. It was selected for the “Strategic Research Base Development Program for Private Universities” in 2011 and promoted a large-scale three-year research project. The aim is to become a university that works together with the local region to create a rich regional society based on these experiences.Having been selected as part of the project by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to maintain the facilities and equipment for vitalizing education and research at private universities , this Center carries out research from the perspectives of locomotion and biology that are necessary in the field of rehabilitation. In addition to promoting the further advancement of dedicated research, it was also established with the purpose of linking that research directly to the cultivation of human resources.RECRO serves as a medical personnel training facility not only for researchers and undergraduate and graduate students primarily in the Faculties of Rehabilitation, Nutrition, and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Kobe Gakuin University, but also for students at other universities and young researchers at other research facilities aiming to become medical professionals. The Center is currently promoting joint research with students and researchers at the Kobe Tokiwa University Faculty of Health Sciences and young researchers at KNC Laboratories Co., Ltd. Research is currently underway on the topics of (1) measuring the protein titin, a biomarker for skeletal muscle degeneration, (2) evaluating antisense nucleic acids that promote the production of myostatin b, and (3) developing medicines using antisense nucleic acids to treat intractable diseases. The results of this research are announced broadly in academic conference presentations and research paper publications every year.Since its founding, our University has focused on various forms of international exchanges and language education with the aim of “developing human resources with an international viewpoint.” In addition to our study abroad programs, opportunities for international communication within the University can encourage cross-cultural understanding which will help cultivate international awareness and new senses of value - qualities that are highly valuable for developing global human resources. One of our unique oharacteristics is that students are able to learn at their own level while also experiencing personal growth since there are many programs and levels.Joint / Commissioned ResearchAs an educational and research institution, our University is working to resolve social issues and actively participate in research promotion projects, while also returning their results to society on a wide scale. In addition to acquiring competitive funding, we promote the acquisition and utilization of patents as well as industry-academia-government collaborative activities, and support researchers so that they can provide their diverse and outstanding academic research across the world. We will introduce one case that was selected for competitive research funding in 2024. Lecturer KIKUKAWA Hiroyuki of the Faculty of Contemporary Social Studies (two-year project from AY2024 to AY2025) and Assistant Professor MURAKAMI Ryo of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (one-year project for AY2024) were selected for the "University's Urban Innovation Kobe" project. This project subsidizes research activity expenses for young researchers, with the goal of resolving regional and administrative issues of the City of Kobe. Furthermore, the number of joint and commissioned research projects conducted at our University with corporations and other parties in AY2023 reached a total of 50, and their total research expenses exceeded 80 million yen. Both the number of projects and their financial amount have maintained a high level in recent years.Diverse international exchange programs aimed at “developing human resources with an international viewpoint”Study abroad and training programsWe have concluded exchange agreements with 58 universities in 16 countries and provide long-term study abroad programs and short-term overseas training programs which many students participate in every year.
