It is the sub-major program for students of the Faculties of Law, Economics, Business Administration, Humanities and Science, and Contemporary Social Studies to study sports. Today, the promotion of sport has been emphasised by the field of government and business. In the Sports Science Unit, we offer not only lecture-based courses but also diverse learning program such as exchanging with overseas universities and research institutions, planning and management of local sports and health events, and holding sports festivals as part of a community contribution. We nourish students who can contribute to society through their involvement with sports.The Institute for Promotion of Higher Education was founded in 2014 with the objective of improving the quality of education at practive all over the university and of enriching general education, teaching education, and career education. The Institute currently includes the Center for General Education, Center for Teaching Education, Center for Career Education and Center for the Future of students.Support for Students "Going the Extra Mile"Under a cooperative system, all over university the Center for General Education provides “general education subjects” in order to enhance commonly liberal arts education and fundamental education in the University. The appeal of general education subjects is that a variety of subjects not only the faculties students chose but also offered which utilize the strengths of being a comprehensive university, and provide learning that goes beyond the boundaries of individual faculties.In addition to general education subjects, the Sports Science Unit (interdisciplinary education) and Kobe Gakuin College (“Intersive English” programs) are also currently conducted.Kobe Gakuin University takes advantage of its status as the largest private university in Kobe combining humanities with sciences to offer diverse courses. Through actively leading beyond courses of their own faculties, students are able to broaden their perspective and think flexibly.This special program allows students who are interested in improving their English skills to acquire a high level of English proficiency so while studying specialized courses offered by their own faculty. In AY2016, it began as part of a project to prepare students for careers as global professionals. Selected students are offered special courses on topics such as English conversation and preparation for TOEIC. In addition to offering special language courses, a short intensive English program has also been implemented at the State University of New York at Fredonia in the U.S. from AY2018. Thus students can learn the various knowledge that could be necessary for them to play an active role as global professionals.The Center for Teaching Education was established in order to improve the quality of the University’s teacher training course and museum curator training course. It has two primary functions. The first is to support students who wish to become teachers. Specifically, the Center established a Teaching Education Support Office at both of the campuses. A group of teachers with actual experience at elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools daily offer advice to students along with guidance on how to prepare for Japanese teacher recruitment exam. These offices also offer students to diverse resources for free, such as collections of books and magazines and computers. There are also numerous activities to help students pass the Japanese teacher recruitment exam, including "Lectures on How to Prepare for the Japanese Teacher Recruitment Exam," "Basic Academic Skills Lectures," and "Mock Lesson Workshops." Secondly they support educational research regarding the University’s teacher training course and museum curator training course. For example,the center publish the Journal of the Center for Teacher Education, an annual bulletin that collects research papers written by faculty members, including part-time instructors. The Center for Career Education was established with the objective of promoting activities related to the implementation, development, and application of career-oriented education across all of the University’s programs. A career education curriculum is proposed and operated for the common educational subjects and the Center acts as a “bridge” to the learning in each faculty.Furthermore, an “Extracurricular Course and Certification Support Office” is operated as a program to provide support students to make use of their studies and pass Japan’s civil service examination or earn qualifications to acquire more practical abilities.The Center for Student Future Path was established for the purpose of preventing students from leaving the University due to the difficulty in continuing student life, and also providing support their study and job-seeking.The Center offers counseling to students who want someone to listen to their anxieties and worries in their daily lives, or when they don't know where to talk about their problems.
