Faculty ofGlobal Communication●The Faculty of Global Communication (GC) was established in 2015 with the purpose of building up a generation of leaders who can actively take their place on the stage of an increasingly globalized world. To accomplish this goal, we not only equip students with the ability to speak foreign languages fluently, but also train them in practical communication skills essential to being able to make impactful connections with people and meaningful changes in society. The GC Faculty prides itself in providing more than 720 hours of language lessons during the first two years, which is roughly four times the amount of lesson time in other faculties. Students’ foreign language training is coupled with the acquisition of practical skills that include the basic abilities required of full-fledged members of society. These skills include critical thinking skills, management skills, and social-emotional intelligence.During the first half of their third year, all students in the English Course and Chinese Course study abroad at a partner university or other institution overseas. Our study abroad system provides all students the opportunity to put their hard-earned language skills into practice as well as continue to polish their multidimensional language ability in applied settings. On the Japanese course, students learn corporate culture and business Japanese through work experience at a Japanese company.Given that the Japanese course invites students from overseas, we have a dedicated space for language learning and international exchange where students can freely communicate with each other. The international exchange lounge is located in Building D. Additionally, there are numerous occasions throughout the year that center around the development of cooperative projects and exchange events with overseas students. These aspects of our environment make it possible to engage with other cultures as a natural part of campus life.〉〉〉English CourseThe English course aims to assist students in comprehensively mastering a variety of English language communication skills. We focus on obtaining the proficiency required to engage in international trade and international business meetings. It is also possible to obtain a teaching license allowing graduates to teach English in junior high and senior high schools in Japan.〉〉〉Chinese CourseThe Chinese course incorporates a small-group environment to nurture a generation of leaders who have the ability to play a central role in Asia, which is showing remarkable rates of economic growth. In addition to learning the Chinese language, students are also taught to understand the culture of China as well as polish their business communication skills.〉〉〉Japanese Course *For foreign students from overseasThe Japanese course is designed for foreign students who aim to work in a Japanese company. Students gain hands-on experience in learning practical Japanese through company internships as well as joint projects with students from other courses.Topics 01All students study abroad to acquire practical language ability and communication skills (English Course, Chinese Course)Building off the implementation of high-quality foreign language education and on-campus cultural exchange programs, the next step is for students to immerse themselves in a new cultural environment. During their semester abroad, students experience daily contact with the foreign language that they have been studying, allowing them to put their communication ability into practice and gain feedback necessary to refine their skills.Additionally, the study abroad program functions to provide the necessary opportunities to communicate with people who have different sets of values and cultural beliefs. The exposure to a different culture often creates moments of personal and professional growth, allowing students’ worldviews to expand with the new places, people, and opportunities they come across.Communication skills that can only be acquired overseasFaculty of Global Communication: English Course (2024 enrollment limit: 120 students), Chinese Course (2024 enrollment limit: 30 students), Japanese Course (for foreign students from overseas, 2024 enrollment limit: 30 students): Established in 2015Nurturing human resources who can be active globally.Example destinations for overseas studyU.K.: University of York, University of Cambridge, U.S.: Central Washington UniversityCanada: University of Calgary, York UniversityAustralia: Victoria University, Southern Cross UniversityNew Zealand: University of Auckland, University of WaikatoChina: Beijing Language and Culture University, Wuhan University, Jinan UniversityTaiwan: Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages*As of AY2023.
